Third grade at Slangerup primary school is engaged in a project with sensory stimulation. Several of the children explain that they can have difficulties concentrating and shutting out distractions. In the project, they use inmues as part of the school day. They use them both in class and during breaks.

Although the inmu cushions play music and vibrate, it does not disturb either the children nor the teacher. On the contrary, the soft, soothing music spreads throughout the room. It also gives the children security to have the inmu cushions to cuddle with.

At Skovagerskolen, a special school for children with extensive mental and physical disabilities, they have for now six weeks made a special therapeutic and educational effort with the sensory cushions inmuJOY and inmuRHYTHM. Through a methodical individualised approach for 4 of their children with very different abilities and needs, they have experienced how musical sensory stimulation has improved their motor skills, strengthened their attention and generally given them greater well-being in everyday life. They have also experienced how the inmu sensory cushions provide new opportunities for non-verbal communication and attention training.

None of the four children we meet in the video have any language. The staff are specially trained to observe reactions. Since Alma is blind it gives an extra focus on her reactions and how the inmu can support both her and the staff in their everyday school life.

At nursing home Lillevang, they have found an innovative way to prevent stress and reduce sickness absence.

Like many other institutions, they face major challenges in recruiting and avoiding staff leaving. In the last 9 months, they have introduced a new initiative that has improved staff wellbeing and increased job satisfaction.

They give the staff the opportunity to slow down in a hectic working day. 2-3 times a week they practice mindfulness with inmuRELAX sensory cushions.

Kasper is an active man who has autism and a rare muscle disease that causes him to tire quickly. He has no language and seeks many stimuli throughout the day. In just two months of wearing inmuRHYTHM on his body using our vest, he has found it easier to sit on the toilet until he’s finished, to be at the podiatrist and to be kept in activities that stimulate him in a good way. The staff are very optimistic and strives for Kasper to use inmuRHYTHM for dental and doctor visits, bus rides and other situations that can be difficult for Kasper.

Ariana is an autistic child without any language. Her school (Fensmarkskole in Copenhagen, Denmark) is introducing inmuRHYTHM to help her regulate her arousal level. She loves sounds and music and is very motorically active. In her eager she often throw things and often breaks her iPad. inmuRHYTHM is designed to be robust and doesn’t break due to her rough handling.

The video illustrates that introducing new things (including an inmu) to children like Ariana takes time and require patience. This is the first time Ariana experiences an inmu. inmu inventor Anders Hansen has to be creative to make her interested. He is focusing on letting her experience the inmu with her body – let her feel it – rather than just handing it to her. If she gets new things handed to her, she immediately refuses them. But step by step she experiences the inmu and gets more and more interested in it.

German study: inmuRELAX had effect on 85% of the patients https://inmutouch.com/german-study-inmurelax-had-effect-on-85-of-the-patients/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=german-study-inmurelax-had-effect-on-85-of-the-patients Sun, 26 Mar 2023 11:06:57 +0000 https://inmutouch.com/?p=41170

A study by Pflegepraxiszentrum (PPZ) Nürnberg show big effect from inmuRELAX in care: more calm and peaceful patients and reduced sleep problems.

Positive effect

Nursing home NürnbergStift

The study showed that inmuRELAX had positive effect in 85% of cases where it was used. The effect was more calm and peaceful residents.

The staff was also asked to evaluate the inmu. They concluded that inmuRELAX is a good tool for everyday care and to ease challenging situations. Especially when the inmu is used regularly.

Nursing home DIAKONEO

Saw positiv effect in 65% of cases where inmuRELAX was used. All residents had dementia and more than one behavioral challenge. The observed positiv effects includes that residents was calmed down, improved feeling of safety, relaxation or fell asleep.

Background for the study

The goal with the project was to test

  •  if patients would accept the inmuRELAX
  • if restless patients would be more calm when using an inmuRELAX
  • if patients would fall asleep easier and sleep all night.

For the staff the goal was to test if the inmuRELAX used regularly would ease everyday situations or make nursing interventions and challenging situations easier.

The study was carried out over a period of 6 weeks at two nursing homes (NürnbergStift and DIAKONEO). 8 people pariciapated from NürnbergStift and 14 from DIAKONEO. Staff had got a short online training before start of the study.

The project was carried out in cooperation with research institute IDC of the SRH – Wilhelm Löhe University and the research institute IREM of the University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt.

“Can I take the cushion home with me?”

“We need to talk to Mr. X’s family, he would definitely benefit from the cushion!”

“Finally a product that is easy to use!”

“The cushion makes participating residents calmer, we see the effect within a very short time!”

“Most of the residents react immediately to the RELAX, only with one participant did we need several attempts, but the third time he took the cushion himself.”

“The cushion is a real asset, wish we could keep it.”

“The podiatrist was with an anxious resident last week. The resident used to twitch her feet or try to pull them away, but she was calm with the cushion and her attention was on the cushion. The podiatrist found it much easier to care for her feet and the risk of injury was considerably lower.”

“I used the cushion on my night shifts or during rest periods. Before residents often got up again and again, but with the cushion were really relaxed.”

At the relief care institution, Lundø, they use the sensory cushions inmuRELAX and inmuDANCE every day.

They offer relief to families with children with reduced physical and / or mental disabilities, as well as children with autism and similar pervasive developmental disorders.

inmuRELAX gives children tranquillity – even when they have difficulty falling asleep. When a child needs energy and to awaken the senses, they get inmuDANCE – children become more aware of the surroundings.

Anne suffers from dementia but she loves to dance. At Anne’s nursing home, they use inmuDANCE for the little daily therapy that provides activity and joy.

inmuDANCE is a motion-stimulating experience

inmuDANCE invites movement with its interactive, joyful and rhythmic music. Brain damage – from birth or later acquired – often causes cognitive problems. The possibility of recovering what was lost through rehabilitation, largely depends on finding “a path” into the brain. Learning does not only happen through our brain and what we understand through our intellect, but also through the body.

inmuDANCE is made to feel nice to hold, and because it’s easy to carry, it’s a unique therapy tool. It can be used anywhere where there is a necessity for it and in all circumstances where it can be beneficial—the limit is the imagination.

inmuDANCE appeals to the senses with its fresh colours and the cover’s various structures. Our senses are vital to us humans. The most important senses are the sense of touch and movement senses. The vibrations and the tactile elements in inmuDANCE can be of help when there is a need to sense yourself. The music and the music’s rhythm stimulate movement. This way inmuDANCE can help stimulate you to discover the world around you and sensing your physical and mental boundaries.

Contact tool

inmuDANCE can be of help when there is a need for distraction from discomfort and pain. The inmu can also stimulate self-participation in personal care which can allow for a pleasant and fun experience, while at the same time arousing the senses. Listen to the music, sense the vibrations, hold the inmu in your hands, place one hand or arm beneath the rubber band and follow the rhythm.

Our activity employee loves it and uses inmuDANCE as a tool to stimulate arousal during activities. The use has a great effect. Several residents are more susceptive and active and participate better in activities. The single teams will be responsible for planning the use of in- muDANCE from now on. The inmu is used in the neuroscientific area so it is important that there is a professional dialogue about suitability and meaningfulness in different situations.

Manager of housing for people with acquired brain injury

inmuDANCE for play and learning

When children get their hands on inmuDANCE they can’t help but move around. Intuitively they throw and roll it, stick a hand or foot underneath the rubber band and “make sounds”. And of course they also dance with it. Rarely is it necessary to tell them they can create their own rhythm with the tambourine.
