Third grade at Slangerup primary school is engaged in a project with sensory stimulation. Several of the children explain that they can have difficulties concentrating and shutting out distractions. In the project, they use inmues as part of the school day. They use them both in class and during breaks.

Although the inmu cushions play music and vibrate, it does not disturb either the children nor the teacher. On the contrary, the soft, soothing music spreads throughout the room. It also gives the children security to have the inmu cushions to cuddle with.

Therapeutic use of inmuJOY and inmuRHYTHM gives special school new pedagogical possibilities https://inmutouch.com/therapeutic-use-of-inmujoy-and-inmurhythm-gives-special-school-new-pedagogical-possibilities/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=therapeutic-use-of-inmujoy-and-inmurhythm-gives-special-school-new-pedagogical-possibilities Thu, 13 Jun 2024 15:14:13 +0000 https://inmutouch.com/?p=48821

At Skovagerskolen, a special school for children with extensive mental and physical disabilities, they have for now six weeks made a special therapeutic and educational effort with the sensory cushions inmuJOY and inmuRHYTHM. Through a methodical individualised approach for 4 of their children with very different abilities and needs, they have experienced how musical sensory stimulation has improved their motor skills, strengthened their attention and generally given them greater well-being in everyday life. They have also experienced how the inmu sensory cushions provide new opportunities for non-verbal communication and attention training.

None of the four children we meet in the video have any language. The staff are specially trained to observe reactions. Since Alma is blind it gives an extra focus on her reactions and how the inmu can support both her and the staff in their everyday school life.

Beautiful objects make children feel calm and think beautiful thoughts https://inmutouch.com/beautiful-objects-make-children-feel-calm-and-think-beautiful-thoughts/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beautiful-objects-make-children-feel-calm-and-think-beautiful-thoughts Thu, 16 May 2024 10:40:56 +0000 https://inmutouch.com/?p=50194

Beautiful objects make children feel calm and think beautiful thoughts

One teacher told how she asked her pupils to hold their inmu gently, as if it were an egg or a baby bird. It was passed from hand to hand around the classroom. It taught the children that inmu is something beautiful and valuable that you shouldn’t just throw around (even if it is robust).

When we created inmuJOY, we wanted children to experience something beautiful. Like a little animal you can cuddle. When you sit with an animal, you feel it’s alive – it interacts with you. inmuJOY gives children the same feeling with its interactive music and vibrations.

Do you know the feeling when you realise that your hands have reached out on their own for a beautiful object? A mug, a blouse or a piece of jewellery. Or you want to pet the cat? You feel happy and warm inside. You feel this way because many of your senses are stimulated. Not least your sense of touch. Neuroscience research shows that healthy skin stimulation is important for a well-functioning nervous and sensory system. It calms you down – and improves learning.

This knowledge was central to the design of inmuJOY. The beautiful materials that hands can’t help but touch appeal to the child’s desire to reach out and touch. Almost all children love to cuddle with inmuJOY’s soft fur. Their hands can’t help but reach into the pocket.

The organic lines in the design are intentional. They give hands and fingers something to follow. You may have noticed that everything on an inmu has soft lines? We work with the design idea that sharp shapes are likely to create discomfort and noise in the brain, whereas soft shapes create calm. This encourages calm and gentle movements throughout the body.

When you sit with your inmuJOY, you feel a sense of security and warmth that spreads throughout your body. The calm and beautiful music creates a meditative atmosphere. Children find that it shields them from the noise and disturbance of the outside world. A girl in 3rd grade says: “When you sit with it, it’s a nice feeling. You go ‘ahh’. You concentrate on the nice feeling and your task”.

This has changed completely after she got inmuJOY. Now she can fall asleep within minutes. Before it easily took her 3 hours. With inmuJOY on her lap or beside her she can do her homework without problems.

The pain and restlessness are also easier to endure when she hugs her inmuJOY.tes. Before it easily took 3 hours. With inmuJOY on her lap or beside her she can do her homework without problems.

Tilde experiences inmuJOY with her whole body https://inmutouch.com/tilde-experiences-inmujoy-with-her-whole-body/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tilde-experiences-inmujoy-with-her-whole-body Tue, 21 Mar 2023 12:31:49 +0000 https://inmutouch.com/?p=40421

Tilde is a very curious and independent girl. We met her at her school – a school for children with special needs. Tilde has Down syndrome and also has sensory and communicative challenges.

This is the first time Tilde was introducted to inmuJOY. Note how her first reaction is to refuse it. But with patience from the professionals, she step by step gets interested. After 10-15 minutes she is totally convinced and it now have become her best friend.

Getting to know new things take time. An inmu is not any exception.

Relaxing and falling asleep can be difficult when you have ADHD https://inmutouch.com/relaxing-and-falling-asleep-can-be-difficult-when-you-have-adhd/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=relaxing-and-falling-asleep-can-be-difficult-when-you-have-adhd Sun, 19 Mar 2023 07:37:29 +0000 https://inmutouch.com/?p=40068

We have been following Emilia and her inmuJOY for over a year. Now she is 10 years old. She has ADHD and has had great challenges falling asleep and staying asleep.

Emilia was selected to participate in testing inmuJOY with families who have special challenges with e.g. autism and ADHD. In addition, Emilia was offered a series of web guides with small exercises that she had to do daily to strengthen her concentration and get more calm in her body.

After a year, when inmuJOY has become a regular part of Emilia’s everyday life, she still benefits greatly from inmuJOY’s sensory stimuli. She cuddles with it, listens to the music and enjoys the vibrations – especially when she is going to sleep.
